Jon Smith
A native of South Carolina, Jon’s art education began at an early age with private lessons in the small town of Saluda, South Carolina. Jon’s first art instructor was a great inspiration to him; she kept drawing throughout her long life, even up until the ripe old age of 108. Jon continued his art studies at The University of South Carolina, The College of Charleston and The Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing in France. It was in Aix on Provence, while painting on location and studying the Impressionists that Jon developed his sense of light and color. The techniques Jon developed in southern France as a plein air painter are carried forward into his interior settings where he is able to capture that same sense of light.
